This year is your third year in Guoan. How do you feel about this team and this city now?
It’s completely home-like. In fact, I have felt this way since I arrived in Guoan on the first day. Whether it is inside the team or the feeling of this city, it is like returning home. Everyone here is very kind to me and I come to the team every day like a pistachio. Especially when we arrived at the new base and our new home during this holiday, for me and my teammates, this was a gift from God. Now we have the perfect training conditions, and each room on the base is like our own home. So, with such a good base, we must work harder to play every game, and I also hope to help the team win more games.
You are in very good shape this season and have always been at the top of the scorer list, scoring 6 of the 12 rounds of games. Which of all the goals do you like the most?
all. I like every goal I scored, every one was the best, but I still care more about the team’s victory. For me personally, the goal data cannot represent how strong my personal ability is, but it just means that the Beijing Guoan team is very outstanding. Every goal I scored is achieved with the joint efforts of everyone in the team. So no matter how many goals I scored, this result is not my own. Behind this honor is the entire team. Just like these team history pictures on the wall, there are not only players, but also many staff members. I believe everyone has given everything to this team. Rather than saying that I care more about which goal, I care more about every game I play for this team. Every day here gives me a great sense of honor.
Although you are already the focus of every opponent, you still perform well. You have scored 8 goals this season, 6 of which were the first record for the team. Is there any trick for you to be in such a good state?
There is no secret. If so, it is a stronger belief. Since I started to get into football,I set some idol-level goals for myself, such as Eusebio, who is my idol. You scored 10 league goals in your first season at Guoan and 14 league goals in your second season. I have scored 8 goals so far. How many goals do you set for yourself this season?
I will definitely surpass last year’s 14. If I have to set a goal, I will set it to score 20 goals, because before that, my career record for a single season was 18, and I hope I can break this record this year.
You had 12 assists last year, defeating Qingdao Manatees 6-0. You scored 1 goal and had 4 assists. You are the first Beijing Guoan player to have 4 assists in a single game. There have been three assists so far this season. Is this number reduced because there are more people sending you shells now? You just need to complete the goal mission?
I actually had so many assists last year! Now I only have 3? But I think in this year’s game, I passed many threatening passes to my teammates, but unfortunately they didn’t score, so few assists are not my problem, haha.
I think it’s a bit incredible that I can get 12 assists last season. I really didn’t want to deliberately swipe this data, but it generated 12 assists. If I want to increase my assists this year, maybe there is a way to let our captain (Zhang Xizhe) be at the forefront and I will pass the ball to him. He is a very outstanding player, he is the best No. 10 player, and his role and function in the team cannot be replaced. If I pass the ball to him, he will definitely score many goals.
Guoan fans have regarded you as the team’s most threatening offensive point, including many domestic fans who also think that you are the number one foreign player in the Chinese Super League this year. Will this become a pressure on you?
When talking about this topic, I first want to talk about what pressure is, or whether we can convert so-called pressure into motivation. Everyone in our team has realized their childhood dreams to this day. We now have the conditions and opportunities to achieve the achievements of our childhood idols, so the pressure of good or bad performance on the court is not real pressure.
The real pressure may be a very hard-working father. He has to find a meal for his children when he goes out every day. If he comes back empty-handed at night, the children willTo be hungry, this is the real pressure. We now have such good conditions to show our talents, which is not a pressure. Maybe the opponent will defend me with a targeted defense, maybe the fans will have expectations of me and hope I will score more goals. But these can all be converted into motivation, not pressure. So what is your biggest motivation or goal now?
My current dream is to win a championship for Beijing Guoan and the city of Beijing. If I cannot achieve this goal, I will not leave here. Yes, if I don’t win the championship, I won’t leave. Guoan has remained unbeaten so far this season, and has played very well against several competitors who have won the championship. How to evaluate these competitors on the road to winning the championship? Which team do you think is more difficult to score?
The competition for winning the Chinese Super League this year is very fierce. It may be that the Harbour team is one level higher than other teams last year, but this year is not the case. Although we won Taishan and Haigang this year, we drew with Shenhua and Rongcheng, every game was difficult to play. Everyone’s strength was similar, but we were not afraid of any opponent.
