Sentenced to 7.5 years for drug trafficking + assault! Former Dutch international: I want to go back home, but I don’t want to be arrested

1BSPORTS 1B Sports June 10th News Former Dutch international Quincy Promez was interviewed by Dutch RTL TV station a few days ago. He said he was eager to return home, but hoped that the Dutch police would not arrest him.

Promes, 33, was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison for severely assaulting his cousin in 2023, and was sentenced to another six years in prison for participating in drug dealing in 2024. He currently lives in Dubai and plays for the local team.

Promez was serving the Russian Moscow Spartak team when he was sentenced in the Netherlands. He was spared from arrest due to the lack of extradition treaty between Russia and the Netherlands. However, while he was with the team to Dubai, he was detained by local police for a traffic accident and is currently not allowed to leave the country and wait for procedures to extradite the Netherlands.

Promez said: “I don’t want to lie. I really miss the Netherlands very much and yearn for a return. Although there are always people saying that I am on the run, I have actually been trying to contact the judiciary to resolve the problem.”

This former international, who has played for the Dutch national team 50 times, is currently playing for the UAE second-level league Dubai United. He had previously expressed his willingness to accept Dutch police interrogation or appear in court, but requested a guarantee not to be arrested to continue his career.

Promez said: “I hope to continue playing football while the Netherlands assumes legal responsibility, such as being summoned to and from the Netherlands several times, and then playing normally. This is my demand.”
