What will you still remember in this year’s Champions League final in 30 years?
“It’s too difficult to choose only one scene. There were two moments that impressed me. One was the scene of Marginhos and Jinpenbe crying in the face of tears. After years of hard struggle, they finally brought back the Big Ear Cup for the club. This was really joyful! The captain’s excited expression was very moving. Then there was the scene of resonating with the fans when the final whistle sounded. That was also of great significance. I will always remember these scenes.”
You don’t seem so excited…?
“Yes, but I’m also happy because we didn’t realize immediately that we were a European champion, even the past few days, and like the 2018 World Cup, it took us a long time to realize that we were a world champion. What’s the most touching of your off-field event?
“One thing that moved me especially, that is, before the final, we were on the bus, and Donaruma handed a letter to every player and staff, in which he expressed his recognition of our performance this season with words of encouragement. We were already full of fighting spirit, but it made us even more excited and unbelievable. He wrote for everyone in French, English and Portuguese. Win the World Cup but didn’t play much, is it more wonderful to win the Champions League as the core of the team?
“Ah, my God…this is a very difficult question. It is such an extraordinary achievement to win the World Cup in 20 years. It is priceless to celebrate the World Cup victory with all France in 2018, and the joy is unspeakable. And the first Champions League win in the club’s history is also exciting, especially after years of great disappointment, when we returned to Paris, we realized that we had accomplished something amazing. So, I can’t make a choice!”
What is the most important goal of this season for you? Not necessarily the most beautiful, but you will definitely remember it in your heart…
“I would say that game against LiverpoolIn the game, I scored a goal shortly after the game started, and then successfully eliminated the strongest team in Europe at that time, at Anfield. We have nothing but lost, we know we create miracles. Although we had the advantage in the first leg, we were scored a goal at the last moment, so we were very disappointed. Where do you feel the strongest moment?
“I think it was a away game against Arsenal. I felt that I was in very good shape at the time. If I hadn’t ended up due to injury, I believe I still have a chance to enter another one. I’ve been trying to drive Saliba crazy (laughs), and we did a great job in the first 30 minutes against Arsenal. ”
Knowing that you have a very good relationship with Mbappe, would you tease him that you would win the Golden Globes earlier than him? Or are you not very brave to touch on this topic?
“No, we have not discussed this topic, nor will we joke with each other in this regard. Killian and I have always believed that winning collective honors is the most important thing to win the Golden Globe Award. The key is to go further in major games and have a great season. If you can do this, you have a chance to win the Golden Globes. We only focus on this, nothing else. ”
As the Champions League champion, Paris will face higher expectations in the Club World Cup…
“The club president has made it clear that we must continue to work hard to win more championships with this young team. This is not only the spirit of the club, but also the attitude the coach instills in us every day. We still have four to five years to fight for as many trophies as possible, and our goal in the Club World Cup is to win the championship. ”
