1BSPORTS 1B Sports June 15th Bayern legend Ribery was interviewed by FIFA and talked about his views on the Club World Cup.
Bayern is in the same group as Benfica, Boca Youth, and Auckland City
Ribery: “I think it’s a tough group. Bayern may be the hottest qualifying, but it’s a bit like the Champions League, without easy games. If you don’t concentrate completely, or think any game will be easy, it’s just a problem.”
Winner once won the Club World Cup
Ribery: “I will never forget 2013. It was the best year of my life.We had a great time in Marrakech (the club world cup venue). We won the trophy and I was named the best player in the tournament. It means a lot to me.”
The new 32-team Club World Cup
Ribery: “There will be a lot of top teams and big-name stars, which I think is great for American fans to watch the game at their doorstep. If Bayern can play at its best, the players will be able to win the championship. Obviously there are other competitors involved, but I certainly hope Bayern can move forward all the way and bring the championship trophy home.“
Follow the Riverbed and Boca Youth
Ribery: “I am a huge fan of Boca Youth, and I really love this team. I hope to go to Argentina one day because the atmosphere there is so great. I believe Boca has a chance to win the Club World Cup.Their play, mentality and thinking are top-notch. This will be a serious test for Boca Youth, but Bayern and any other team are the same. It is difficult to predict the title belonging, or even how far the team can go. I will try to pay attention to the progress of the game, but keep my emotions under control.”
Friend Muller’s farewell performance at Bayern
Ribery: “He is a legend of the club. We have played side by side for many years. He is a top player and a great person. I respect him. I hope the players can perform well, not only for Muller, but also for themselves and the club.”
